Kelly Faris is in her senior year as a Guard for the UConn Huskies. Kelly is the youngest of four children, all who played basketball, along with her dad who coached. "I started playing basketball at a pretty young age and enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun and it stuck."
As a senior Kelly will lead by example. "I'm a lead by example type of person. I'm experienced and approachable. The younger players will see that I give 100% every day."
Kelly's most memorable experience so far at UConn was winning the National Championship during her freshman year. She has a lot of basketball memories prior to coming to UConn. She won a National Championship on her Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, and four high school state championships at Heritage Christian High School in Plainfield, Indiana.
Kelly's favorite part of the game is that she loves to pass the ball. "In high school I used to be able to get just about any pass through but in college you are playing against teams that have five or six good players, and with their speed and quickness the passes have caused turnovers which have become a problem. I've definitely had to learn to make adjustments, and I'm still working on that."
"Making a decision on what college to go to was a long difficult process but once I got to UConn, watched them practice, and talked to the girls and the coaches, I just felt like this was the best place that I would fit in."
When asked what makes Coach Auriemma happy Kelly said, "It's hard to say that he's ever happy with our play. Every once in a while he'll say good job but it takes a lot, and it doesn't always happen."
Final Four bound: "It's going to take a lot. We've made some improvements but we've still got a long way to go. Thankfully we still have the rest of the season."
