Kaili is in her senior year as a Forward for the UConn Huskies. Kaili used to be a swimmer but became interested in basketball because of her brother. “He used to shoot baskets after I had swim practice so I joined him, and I just kind of fell in love with it.”
Kaili’s most memorable experience while at UConn was prior to the start of her junior year when the team took a road trip to Camp Jewell (in the northwest corner of CT). “The bond that we had after that trip was amazing. Noone could break through it and it clearly showed with the way the season ended winning 39 and losing 0 games, and winning the National Championship.” At Camp Jewell they had no technology, no Ipods, no cell phone service, just each other, and Kaili hopes that same chemistry will give them the same results this year.
Her most memorable basketball experience before coming to UConn was winning the city title during her high school junior year. “We were picked to come in third in the league. We ended up winning the league then went on to win the city title. That was special.”
Kaili made her decision to come to UConn after visiting the school. She came during the “super show” (the night before the official day college basketball season begins each school puts on a fun evening of scrimmages, 3 point contests, etc.) “I felt the whole family atmosphere, and how everyone wants you to be successful, and they all want you to do well.”
The transition from high school to college was difficult. “When you have the right people around you, it makes it a lot easier.”
Final Four Bound: “It took discipline to get to the Final Four last year, and it’s going to take discipline and listening to what coach says. and we’ll be all right, we’ll get there again.”
